People kept saying it wasn\u2019t \u2018real\u2019enough, but it has aged quite gracefully. It\u2019s got <strong>plenty of star power<\/strong>, as the late and great <strong>Chadwick Boseman plays<\/strong> <strong>Vontae Mack<\/strong>, one of the top prospects for the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kevin Costner<\/strong> tags along and plays the <strong>Cleveland Browns GM, Sonny Weaver Jr.<\/strong> He\u2019s given a chance to secure the #1 overall draft pick this year, but<strong> he has to give up three 1st round picks <\/strong>himself. It would cripple the Browns, but team owner Anthony Molina (played by Frank Langella) forces him to do it. Will he be able to rebuild the team? Who will he pick with 1st overall? Unfortunately, I\u2019m a bit too young to prefer the original version. <strong>They\u2019re both great<\/strong>, and it\u2019s only right to at least mention the original here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new and improved version of this film features names like <strong>Adam Sandler<\/strong>, <strong>Chris Rock<\/strong>, <strong>Michael Irvin<\/strong>, <strong>Stone Cold Steve Austin<\/strong>, and even <strong>Burt Reynolds<\/strong> (who was in the first one!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sandler plays <strong>Paul Crewe,<\/strong> <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>former professional football player<\/strong> who gets arrested for drunk driving. He ends up going to New Mexico State Penitentiary, where the <strong>warden forces him to be the captain of a football team<\/strong> comprised of convicts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Longest Yard is a blast from beginning to end, and if you haven\u2019t seen it, you\u2019ll certainly be ready for Super Bowl LVII after you do. Little Giants features a <strong>somewhat friendly competition between two brothers<\/strong>, both of which love football. Rick Moranis plays Danny O\u2019Shea, a man who\u2019s tired of living in his brothers\u2019 shadow. His brother Kevin O\u2019Shea, played by Ed O\u2019Neill, is known as an <strong>elite peewee football coach.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Danny decides he\u2019s had enough and challenges Kevin<\/strong> when he refuses to put Danny\u2019s daughter, nicknamed \u201cIce Box\u201d, on his team of elite talent. She\u2019s a fantastic player and deserves a spot, but she gets rejected. Instead of pouting, she bands together with the other rejects and creates the Little Giants.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a <strong>family-friendly tale<\/strong> offering up a strong message. As you can tell, I prefer <strong>light-hearted football films<\/strong> over anything else. <strong>Sandler plays<\/strong> <strong>Bobby Boucher<\/strong>, who starts as the waterboy for the University of Louisiana.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Boucher dedicated his life to being a waterboy <\/strong>after the death of his father, as his mother told him the cause was dehydration. It\u2019s based on the story of an African-American coach named <strong>Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington)<\/strong> trying to <strong>teach a team of racially diverse teammates<\/strong>. Boone is brought over to T.C. Williams High School from a black school in the area and given a role as an assistant coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although racially segregated schools are no longer a thing, T.C. Williams is one of the few to integrate students quickly. Many other schools in the neighborhood are still considered \u2018whites only\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a racially charged film with a powerful name like Denzel Washington as the lead. I\u2019m biracial myself, so I love empowering movies like this.
