Don\u2019t want your browser to remember what you did online? Switch to Incognito mode. Known as Incognito on Chrome and Private Browsing on Firefox and Opera, it gives us a \u201csafe\u201d browsing experience. But how safe is it really?<\/p>\n

What Incognito CAN do<\/strong><\/p>\n Incognito changes how your browser behaves. However, it doesn\u2019t change anything else.<\/p>\n In normal mode, your browser will keep a history of all the pages you visited and store cookies from websites. The autocomplete feature of the browser saves the data you entered in a form on a web page.<\/p>\n Your browser also stores the searches you made and saves pages in the cache. If someone opens your computer, they can know what you have been browsing.<\/p>\n If you want to protect your history from people who have access to your computer (such as your family), incognito is perfect for you.<\/p>\n What it CAN\u2019T do Incognito hides your actions from the browser you\u2019re using. So if you\u2019re using social media in school when it\u2019s not allowed, you\u2019re not hiding from anyone. The network admins can still see all your activities.<\/p>\n And at home, your ISP gets to see everything \u2013 even if you\u2019re on incognito. The private browsing mode protects you only from people who have access to your system.<\/p>\n Government surveillance \u2013 still on.<\/p>\n Hacking activities (if any) \u2013 continuing without any issues.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>If there\u2019s a server that\u2019s monitoring your activity, incognito will not hide your activities from it.<\/p>\n
