secure e-mail service?

What is a good, privacy-focused e-mail provider? Are there any free ones? Should support push as well.

  • Any form of sending email anonymously is considered spamming. We would not recommend such a service.

That said, any email account can be anonymous by virtue of having a username that does not identify you in any way (ie. do not use your actual name as the username). Also, if you are using an VPN, the content of your emails would be fully encrypted and secure if intercepted illicitly.

I hope this sufficiently answers your inquiry.
  • Thanks! I didn't mean "anonymous" mail though, but more like a mail service, that won't crawl my mails (like Gmail for example), or potentially might sell information taken from my emails to random companies. Privacy-oriented in the sense of having the mails not be accessed by the provider.
  • I apologize for the misunderstanding. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to speak to the notion of mail providers going through users' emails. I would be very surprised that reputable mail providers such a Gmail would compromise their integrity by violating their customers' privacy in this way, as proof of this could be very damaging to Google.

At any rate, we are not aware of specific mail providers that would suit your particular requirements.
  • To my understanding, Google does have automated keyword crawling in mails to then sell this information for ad targeting (and whatever else they're doing with it). Perhaps someone else on here knows of a good mail service.

    Again, it should have:

    - privacy (no mail crawling and selling of any information to anyone)
    - push support (would be great if it also worked on K-9 app for Android)
    - possibly free

    Thanks!
  • Try 'Proton Mail'

Thanks, this looks great actually. Unfortunately, they seem to have a queue for registering. If someone knows another good email provider, feel free to post them.
  • Everything Irryie said is correct. It's just scary.

Check out ProtonMail, Kolab, or Riseup email services. They're legit. If you can wait about two weeks then ProtonMail would be good and it's free. However, they have not released the mobile version yet, but webmail is available. It's a fairly new company. They will never release based on IMAP or POP (security risks) so prepare for that, if you do sign up for it.
