question for irryie about upgrading to windows 10 from 8.1,, browser settings/saved passwords

irryie

my 8.1 laptop is now giving me the option to get windows 10. id like to do this but I don't want things to be messed up. I have information saved on the IE browser such as favorite websites and saved passwords. if I upgrade to 10 I know there is a new browser. what will happen to the stuff I have saved in the IE browser?

  • Obviously I never used Windows 10, but one thing I know from what others have said here is that IE has been replaced with "Edge" and as such, it is a whole new browser. (Even if it was made from almost identical code.)

As such your settings and passwords and even your favorites/bookmarks are likely to go poof.

Much of this stuff you can export for later reimportation. (Unless they wrote it so that cannot happen, and we would be hearing horror stories if that were the case.)

But either way you will need to actually know the details you want the new browser to know. I use plain text files. For example, a very fictitious example... (ufononsense.com.txt contains my username and password, as well as the e-mail address I used when I made the account. And no, I do not have an account there, and do not know or care if the example site even exists.)
