irryie,catcher i need some help. ipv6 problem

While connected to the vpn I have ipv6 leak enabled. however I tested this website  http://whatismyipaddress.com/

and it somehow was able to detect the ipv6 address from the normal isp. What can be done about this?

I then re tested the website,.using the tor browser. and it did not detect the ipv6 address. however the tor browser warned me that the website was attempting to extract html5 canvas data and I declined it. whats going on

I take it you are on Windows 10, if so then complete these steps:

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click Network and Sharing Center.

    3. In the View your active networks area, click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

    4. On the Networking tab, clear the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box, and then click OK.
If you want to disable IPv6 fully across all networks, then you need to edit the registry, here is a useful guide on how to do that.
  • this is happening on my windows 7 laptop.

I must ad that the website in question is the only one detecting an ipv6 address. all other ip check sites show the ip address of the vpn. the tor browser is unaffected.

  • I will have to check my 8.1 laptop too. I don't care about disabling across any network, just disabling on my individual machines.
  • kind of a strange problem because I thought the ipv6 leak protection in the pia client software was supposed to prevent this.
  • Thanks for the information catcher. this fix also appears to work on my windows 7 machine. the website no longer detects ipv6 address. but, do you know why one website detects ipv6 but the others were not?

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click Network and Sharing Center.

    3. In the View your active networks area, click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

    4. On the Networking tab, clear the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box, and then click OK.mation catcher.
  • It should work across all Windows platforms.
  • I have one PC running Windows 7, I will give it a test.
  • this could indicate there is a problem with the ipv6 leak protection feature in the pia client. it is supposed to disable it.

  • No leak for me on Windows 7.
  • the Ipv6 leak disappeared after doing the fix you suggested catcher. however the leak still took place while the ipv6 leak protection was turned on using the pia client.  what does that mean?
