PIA Users' Best Practices For All-Around Anon Living

edited September 2015 in Off-topic Discussion
Hi everyone.

Though this thread isn't actually 'off-topic', I thought it would be considered 'general discussion' enough to be posted in this section...

To say that I'm a recent privacy-conscious individual is somewhat of an untruth, as I've always locked the doors to my home and kept my curtains closed at night. But, having said that, I could be considered a recent DIGITALLY privacy-conscious person; I bought a years' PIA service a couple of weeks ago, created an account here, I use Tor and Tails for things that I don't want anyone logging/tracking, and I'm staying fffaaaarrrr away from Microsoft's new Windows 10 o.s.

Even though I do employ somewhat better methods at guarding my personal privacy than Average Joe, I do realize that there are surely holes in my privacy boat. With todays' technology, both out in the open and the hidden stuff used by the NSA and others (check out the video below for starters), I'd guess that virtually NOTHING we privacy-conscious holdouts can do, whatever steps we take to safeguard our data, is anywhere close to 100% unassailable from the groups that are hell-bent on outing everyone.

I'd like to know what some of YOU do, what services/methods YOU use, in conjunction with PIA, to keep yourselves as off-the-grid as possible. It goes without saying that you shouldn't post any personally-identifiable info in your replies...Just list what you consider to be solid practices, good advice, reputable services, for keeping the Evil Eye of Sauron out of your business. PIA Admins and Mods, please chime in!

Let's try not to argue too much or start name-calling if someone posts bone-headed, lame 'advice'. Polite correction, with links if possible, does more of a service to us all. And to fellow PIA noobs: Don't take whatever advice gets posted in this thread as Gospel. Listen to all, trust nothing unless the advice is verifiable.

I'll leave you with...

A video which is a few years old, but watching it ---and trying to understand some of what's being talked about--- will give you chills.
