Good download speeds?
So I noticed after a recent re-image of my OS that my Tap-Win adapter now said 100mbps connection, as opposed to the previous10mbps connection, which always seemed so forlorn next to my cable-company's chest-thumping 100mbps Doxcis3 connection. Yeah...
So for fun, I used the TcpOptimizer to set all my adapters for 100mbps, rebooted, went to speedguide.net and selected the Adminor.net Stockholm, Sweden test server (http://www.speedguide.net/speedtest/test.php?m_id=10) and thought I'd see if there was anything there besides the usual boring excuse for what passes as "broadband" in the U.S.
Damn. What did you guys do? I mean...I've never seen anything over 98 mbps down and 50 up. I've been with Pia 3 years, and almost never turn off the vpn. In case you want to try to duplicate, I used Sweden server for every test. The results say the location changed with my gateway. No matter. These results aren't cherry-picked. Wham-bam thank you m'am.
I also have my encryption settings to the max.
So enough foreplay! Here are the results!
GATEWAY:Brazil

Just move the decimal 3 to the left for mbps, thats 94.894 mbps.
Texas:

Cali:

US East:

US Midwest:

Florida:

Seattle:

Italy:

For some reason, all my other Italy runs say "US."
What's up with that?

Netherlands:

Germany:

Canada, Toronto:

Montreal:

Israel:

Mexico:

So PIA, what's the deal here? I love it, I just hope it's for real.

The odds of actually getting those speeds are exactly zero though since the VPN servers are each one gigabit.
And the speed test sites are all deceptive at best. I would use a torrent client to download a popular Linux ISO image as a speed test. There has been much argument about the speed test sites being paid for the deceptive results they show when using certain ISPs or VPNs. It seems as likely as not that if you pay them they will show extra speed for you.
I knew it wasn't true, I also knew from past experience that the 10/100 meant little. Didn't realize it meant 'nothing' however.
Now if we could just get US cable providers to deliver speeds comparable to what other parts of the world offer.
:-?
However the cost will make you stay away. (That and Charter Cable's asinine attitude towards customers.)
One day there will be fast Internet available for everyone. Hopefully we will live long enough to see it.
