Hey all!

  • I am experiencing speed issues with v.52: I am not able to maxout my 100mb connection using torrents with the udp protocol i had no issues before.  I am using win7 64 home
  • Update works good for me so far. Speeds are the same as when I was on .46. Only thing I am hoping that this will magically fix the dispearing PIA tray icon in win 10 but not gonna hold my breath..
  • Can someone tell me the version number for OS X? I see v1.0, not .52 or .53.
  • I just installed the new version and I continually get the error that I need to reinstall the TAP driver from the start menu. However, I have spent the last 2 hours trying various steps to resolve it.

I turned off Windows Firewall, I disabled driver signature enforcement, I ran the "reinstall TAP" file in the PIA folder etc.

I'm running Windows 10 Home (64 bit) with the new November update. Is this a known issue with this release? What else can I try?
  • same problem here, now i can not connect using vpn
  • same problem here, that is to say running windows 7, 64 bit,  get same tap driver  error message, no way to remedy the problem.
  • HELP!  I WANT MY VPN BACK!

  • I think I found the problem I uninstalled my tap adapter and installed a the latest stand alone version of openvpn and I have exact speed issue.  so it seems its the openvpn software that is bundled with pia client is the problem.  When I restore my pc to earlier image problem is gone
  • Same problem here. Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

Also does not work here on Windows 10 Pro 1511 64bit. Tried a dozen times. Wish I had the old v.49 but I can't find it, lol. Anyone else figure out how to get this v.53 working on Windows 10 yet?

Never mind even the latest Open VPN client isn't working. Oh well, I guess I don't need to browse the internet or check email after all. lol
  • I'm having the same problem. I had no issues with the previous client in Win 10 (except the app wouldn't start automatically). With the new client, v.53, the TAP driver fails to install. I talked to tech support via IM, but no resolution...

  • There are major issues with v.53 for Mac reconnecting after sleep.

I have to restart my computer each time in order to reconnect as the program stays disconnected no matter what server you try.  Even exiting and restarting the program does nothing.
  • Same installation problem here with Windows 10 on both my PC and my laptop. Keep getting told to reinstall TAP driver. Only other thing I have running is Avast, and I've never had a problem with that before. Not happy about his.
  • Anyone attempted the new version for Linux yet?

I am having the same issues with the new client on Win 10. Keep getting the same TAP reinstall error over and over. I did reinstall as it said and that didn't work, then completely uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail either.
  • Add another Windows 10 Pro 64-bit with recurring demand to reinstall TAP issue. My computer eventually crashed and would not re-boot. Missing .dll error. Had to restore to earlier point. Will not update until this problem is corrected.
  • I received the leak/vulnerability warning and was still running v.47 .... 'upgraded' to v.53 and speeds have dropped precipitously, almost always < 2 mb/sec and often < 1 mb/sec ....and this is on a 100 mb/sec connection.

I now have the 'choice' of slow, bordering on unusable connection or the client that PIA says not to use!  :(
  • I've reached out to support via live chat and they've instructed me to go back to V.47. Here is the link I was given for the older version.

    Thanks steveanthony.

v.47 is a little better but still quite slow relative to unprotected connection and even relative to the way it was before the v.53 install.  I'm wondering if some nuts-and-bolts files and/or settings were installed under v.53 and are still affecting PIA performance even with the v.47 client restored.
  • I have just update to v53 on win7 64.  Using firefox now I cannot get gmail and most stuff is loading very slowly (using Melbourne conx).  Any thoughts why this is after update.  Meanwhile have reverted back to previous version where I had no issues.  Is it just me or is v53 still not up to scratch
  • I think I might have found a workaround for Windows 10 "reinstall TAP driver" error. I rebooted in safe mode and reinstalled PIA. Message said TAP driver installation failed, but when I reboot back into Windows 10 normally everything appears to be working OK. Tried on two Windows 10 machines and got the same thing on both. PIA tells me I am connected and when I go to a site like Speedtest the location it gives me matches what PIA tells me I am connected to.
  • Windows 10 Home 64-bit, and the latest version is working fine for me.  I did have some trouble installing it just by running it as an admin.  I had to run it via Command Prompt (as an admin) to get it to install properly.
  • I take no credit for this, yzonker posted in another thread on the forum.

Post this here also in case it will help someone.  Been beating on this for 2 hours,

I finally got this fixed. I was stuck at installing the new tap driver.  So if you're using Win10 in particular,

    1) Uninstall PIA
    2) Uninstall the Tap driver in device manager (under network adapters)
    3) Delete the PIA directory in Program Files
    4) Reboot in safe mode (hold down shift when you hit restart, then have it start in diagnostic mode where it will ask to start in safe mode, Google it if necessary)
    5) Install PIA while in safe mode

This worked for me when nothing else did.
  • Also on Mac, the only way to switch servers is to disconnect and reconnect wifi every time.
  • I cannot even unistall PIA from Win7 via the start menu, control panel etc  etc.

Also, how do u check if there is an IP leak??
  • HELP!  I WANT MY VPN BACK!

    I agree
  • My speeds with v.47 are greatly improved today.  I'm wondering if a certain ISP's fiasco of the last 48 hrs was mostly at fault.

I can also report success under Windows 10 with the Safe Mode install to overcome the TAP driver problem.

Open the client and press the Advanced button. The version number is in the bottom left corner.

I had this exact same problem on two different PCs the other day (Windows 10 64-bit).

I tried everything I could find -- rebooting, running as admin, uninstalling other VPNs, disabling firewalls, disabling virus scanners, etc. Nothing let the TAP driver install; it always failed.

While poking around, I went into the control panel, opened up the network connections panel, and then clicked on the "VPN" section on the sidebar. It didn't open; just hung there for a minute or so. I closed the window as it was unresponsive.

The next time I tried the "Reinstall TAP driver" PIA shortcut, it went through without a problem and the VPN worked. I didn't think anything of it until a couple hours later, the exact same steps fixed the TAP driver problem on my other system, too.

    tl;dr -- Try this:
    - Go to control panel
    - Network & internet
    - Click on the "VPN" menu on the left side
    - It won't open and will just hang for a few seconds
    - Close the window
    - Reinstall TAP driver (should work now)
    - Enjoy your secure VPN

I have no idea why it worked, but it did on two different systems.

  • What happened to the old taskbar icons? I installed this new update and noticed quicker connection speeds, but these new icons look horrible. They are low quality and have disgusting white borders around them.
