Why torrent uploaders are getting caught nowadays?

edited December 2015 in Off-topic Discussion

Is it possible to hide their tracks? Are they not doing it?

When they came up with Popcorntime....they said no one could shut them down?

If this keeps up, maybe we might return to old days of sharing physical dvds.

Is there a proper openvpn AES256 vpn WiFi router that is not too big but small and opensource?

I think it's reasonable to assume that virtually all of these major uploaders are using all the technology available to them to cover their tracks, e.g. vpn, proxy, seedbox, etc. But all the best technology avails nothing if you go shooting off your mouth about your illicit activities on social media. That appears to be their major downfall -- boasting to their friends and compatriots, or otherwise leaving bread crumbs that lead to their door. There's a myriad of ways that happens. For example reusing the same username seems to be a common way they get busted. Not a real smart move, for example, to use the same username on your KAT account as your Facebook, or on various file sharing-oriented forums. But apparently that sort of thing happens quite often. MAFIAA, MPAA, RIAA, et al employ resourceful PIs to hunt these guys down. Its often surprising how easy some of the major uploaders have made it for them to be caught. It's usually not the lack of their own use of privacy technology that was their downfall but their own big mouths.
  • Every time you decide to involve yourself in an activity that goes against someone's interests you have to realize that at some point they might want to stop you. You have to protect yourself and that can be difficult if your adversary has a decent amount of resources and is highly motivate.

That's what happened to those two guys. They were specifically targeted and because they didn't protect themselves enough they were caught.

As to your router question I think you'll have to be more specific.
