I don't think he's that far from a fascist, probably more of an opportunistic populist/nativists but he's definitely in that political spectrum. If you read a few definitions of fascism what he says and what he claims he'll do definitely applies. So yeah in my opinion definitely not a true fascist but not "very far" from it.
Probably most politicians running are close to a fascist.

Politicians = Funded by special interests and lobbyist, and these guys have influence over media/socialmedia/celebrities and most of the media from New York Times to Fox News is in their respective left and right pocket.
You can see celebrities with no interest in politics suddenly have something speak against and for a particular candidate when election is closer and certain groups protest and start #hashtags, social media warriors go troll on each others profiles and make up stories and such.
What you see and hear in the news now is designed to favor their puppet politicians and their respective parties.
Neither the medias in left nor the right, will ever publish anything favorably towards each other other than some concessional blips.
It is all a big orchestrated puppet show and people still believe there is a working democracy and news media is fair and balanced.
This is the secret. Americans love their parties more than their country.
Now Trump is a threat to both the left and right and they both perhaps may seem to cooperate and have a mutual understanding between each other.
If Trump was a Democrat, which he was till an year ago or so, majority of media which is in the pocket of leftist, they would hail him as a hero.
It is the same if Bernie Sanders were a Republican. The left would hate him and call him a fascist and the right would love him.
This is a big circus show and those 1% of the elites with their control over the media decide who should be the next President.
All the while ordinary citizens and their votes don't matter, the opinion of hand picked puppet justices matter more.
This is an old style propaganda war between the left and right. American media is a well oiled propaganda machine and unfortunately they spent too much time inside the country than say do a propaganda war against ISIS.
