Qbittorrent Help?
Hello,
Was wondering if someone could point me towards a guide on setting up qbittorrent with pia. I specifically want to know about upnp and dht settings and port forwarding.
Lot's of generic advice seems to be to keep upnp and dht unchecked for security. But then I see pia advise someone you can just use default settings with vpn? Unchecking 'enable DHT' causes a considerable slowdown as well as just not connecting to some torrents with low seeds.
I'm not port forwarding either and I'm not sure if I should be. I usually use a server in my own country but I am curious about security of this vs foreign server + port forwarding.
I followed omninegro's advice for binding and have not seen any leaks in ipmagnet but that guide didn't go into these settings.... maybe they are unimportant?
I've researched this a bit and can't seem to find a definitive answer. I would be grateful for any advice or perhaps someone could point me in the right direction

Do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions not answered there.
And I apologize if I do not respond fast. My Internet seems to be rather finicky at the moment. There are clouds in the sky, and my ISP ceases to work basically every time there is any measurable rain. (Charter Cable in Fort Worth Texas.)
So are you saying binding to the tap adapter is all that is needed in the setup? It is alright in security terms if all other settings left on default including upnp and dht? I mention these because they seem to come up in all the guides.
I monitor with ipleak.net and ipmagnet and everything seems to work except once when I reset the pc without first closing qbit
Is there a guide you recommend?
Or just "Disable UPnP and NAT-PMP"?
Sorry to nag but you seem to know what you're talking about and I get stuck in researching this because there is so much conflicting advice.
So long as you are using the VPN interface only and have UPnP and NAT-PMP disabled you should be golden.
I'll just add a small detail and a heads up for you.
Right now, for many users of qBittorent, including myself, the download speeds have been terrible. So, don't go crazy troubleshooting, tweaking and pulling your hair out thinking it's on your end. It likely isn't. I have been troubleshooting this and everything on my end and the PIA VPN is fine. My VPN internet speedtest results are about 90% of my non-VPN speeds. As soon as I launch QB, my personal network connection slows to a crawl, all other PCs on my lan are fine. Example - I run QB and then I could go download via Firefox browser a 200MB file and it will take 20 minutes. As soon as I close QB, everything speeds up and the file is done in seconds. This isn't just me. Others are having the same problems. The QB forums are down now due to a hack attack, but you can read the many complaints. Many of us are waiting for a fixed client. I tried rolling back to older versions and it did not help. Might try again during the quiet holiday time.
OK, and now having upgraded to PIA client version .55, I have horrible TAP problems. lol Downgrading for now. Ughh, I love you PIA but sometimes! lol
