Some Android apps don't have data through VPN
I have a setup that works 95% correctly. With the current setup I cannot access the network on any android phones through the facebook or snapchat apps. I can get data through other apps, but just not those (on all phones on the network).
Basic setup is a tethered phone on T-Mo with wifi tether sent to a router in repeater mode to send out to the network. All devices connect to the router and not the phone's wifi
Step 1 - Start PIA app on tethering phone, start easy tether. This works great except every 12-24 hours both PIA and easy tether shut off and I have no internet on the network.
Step 2 - Run easy tether on phone with no PIA app running and run individual PIA apps on each connected device. This works but is a pain for anyone coming over to our house and does not have a solution for devices without an app such as a Playstation or Xbox.
Step 3 - PIA Tier 1 recommended hosting the VPN on my router, so I installed DD-WRT and followed the PIA instructions for setting up the OpenVPN client on the router and this is where I am currently at. Everything is great. All connected devices show protected IPs and speeds are great. My problem is that on all android devices, I cannot access certain apps on the network. If I turn off the VPN client, everything works properly. I've tried messing with every setting in the OpenVPN client (servers, ports, tunneling, firewalls, etc.) the only thing that seemed to help was changing to TCP, but that resulted in slower speeds and also did not bypass tethering on my network so all data showed as tethering unlike when connected with UDP.
I'm open to try whatever, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Please suggest possible solutions and I'll try them out.
