I assume you're running ver. 55 or 56? In their brilliance PIA "improved security" by blocking our lan access when connecting to their vpn. Your solution is to roll back to a previous version, such as ver 53, or install a good OpnVPN app like Viscosity and the PIA OpenVPN files.

indeed i am using v.55.... and thats a brilliant idea to block the Lan access :S is there anywhere i can find a guide and link to roll back to a previous version ?

and what exactly is viscosity ?
  • If you think ver. 55 is brilliant you should try ver. 56. It also disables the OSX firewall altogether. On purpose. Genius!

Viscosity is an OpenVPN app. When you import the PIA config files Viscosity can be used instead of the PIA app, and it works very well.
  • The software team at PIA has lost their collective minds.  The client gets worse and worse.

  • You will be missed, Khariz. I hope even though you'll not be renewing your PIA sub, you'll still be haunting these forums.
  • I plan to. I'll try to remain constructive so I don't get banned.
  • thx tomeworm for the infos on Viscosity... i did just install VUZE some days ago cause transmission doesn't drop the downloads when the VPN disconnects... will i still be able to do that with viscosity ?

Be very careful about which bittorrent app you run because many of them will install malware. I have never used Vuze and I never will. Vuze will infest your Mac with malware. I'd stay far away from Vuze, along with uTorrent and BitTorrent. Thus, I can't answer your question specific to Vuze.

I personally do not trust the killswitch built into the PIA app, nor do I trust having to run a script to accomplish the same thing reliably in Viscosity. Instead I run the PIA proxy in my bittorrent app, along with PIA vpn (on Viscosity). That way I've got some insurance --  in case the vpn drops, it's still running on the proxy.

Although I really like Transmission it doesn't support proxy setup. So I use Deluge and have found it, along with the PIA proxy, to be quite reliable.
  • oh i wasnt aware of VUZE and malware on MAC... good to know... :S i'll ave a look at deluge then. thx alot
  • do u might have any step by step guide to setup deluge with PIA ?
  • ok i just found this guide: http://www.best-bittorrent-vpn.com/how-to-use-deluge-anonymously.html and it seems to work...i do have 1 question though: does PIA need to run for the proxy to work ? or does the settings ive setup automatically go to the proxy (without PIA running in the taskbar?)

You don't need the PIA app running at all for the proxy to work. Set it up like this:
