is port forwarding working for other users?

It has not been working for me for a few months. I reinstalled Windows and then reinstalled PIA client, but the port forwarding still fails, even though I am using the port number shown by the PIA client as I did previously.

  • I just checked the Toronto server and port forwarding works fine for me.

When you say port forwarding fails, how exactly are you testing it?
  • In my p2p program, I use the port assigned by the PIA server as the TCP and UDP port, as I did before. But recently this no longer works, as the ports are not reachable. If I am not using PIA, port forwarding does work using my own router.

Any idea how to solve this?

  • What bittorrent app and version are you running?

How are you verifying that there's a port forwarding problem? If you're only checking it in your bittorrent app that's not a valid testing method. Try:
    http://www.canyouseeme.org/
    or
https://www.grc.com/ and run the Shields Up test
  • It's not bittorrent, it's the latest eMule. The app has a link to a connection test webpage that tests the ports. In addition, it's clear whether port forwarding is working since users only get assigned a high id from a server when ports are open.

Everything works when I don't use PIA, but port forwarding doesn't work when I connect by PIA. This is evident from eMule's tests as well as other sites such as CanYouSeeMe.

I'm using PIA v0.56 with port forwarding enabled. I tried their different port forwarding servers with the same results. There's also no difference whether I select connection type UDP or TCP.

Any idea why this may be the case?
