PIA Client vs SOCKS5 Proxy vs Windows L2TP

Hi all,

New to the VPN world, but still unsure about a few things even after doing hours of research.

My main use will be for uTorrent, and after reading multiple threads, it seems the majority of users use the PIA client, or the SOCKS5 proxy, but not simultaneously. Some believe that it is a sort of "tunnel inside a tunnel" route, but can cause connection issues.

On top of those two methods, there seems to be another way of enabling the VPN, which is to manually setup a connection through the Windows Vista/7 network options. This will create a L2TP connection which in reality should be as secure as running the PIA client correct? The only downside to this method is the possibility of DNS leaks if i'm not mistaken, and the lack of a kill switch in case the VPN crashes.

Which method provides the most anonymity when using uTorrent?
