Still struggling with VPN freezes when torrenting

I've been struggling with this problem for almost nine months, when I first installed PIA. Back then, I was using utorrent as my torrent client. Whenever I ran utorrent, VPN would freeze, take my Internet connection with it, and the only way I would get my Internet back was to reboot the system. So I switched to Deluge, which worked for a while but then I started to experience the same problem of connection hanging up. It happened whether I ran the torrent client through a proxy or not.

I have scoured the Internet looking for a solution but nothing I have tried seems to help. I would really appreciate it if someone could lend me a hand. I'm on Windows 10 64-bit, and I am using Kaspersky IS for anti-virus. ( I have heard it mentioned that the UDP setting in KIS may be the culprit, but I can't find much information on that either.)
