Is Transmission still used to spread ransomware?

Some days ago I installed transmission upgrade (2.90, I guess) and I got infected with some ransomware. My files extensions are changed to .cerber, so I guess I am dealing with this thing: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-cerber-virus.html

Transmission has been twice infected via their official website.
