No indicator when connected

It seems a big flaw in the PiA app that it shows an icon when not connected but nothing when it is connected. Trying to explain to family how to use a VPN is a lot easier when you can say "Look for the lock icon to check you're secure" but even for myself, it's easier if there's an icon showing.

Is there an alternative, maybe OpenVPN, that I could use that would remedy this oversight? My subscription is coming up for renewal and I'm seriously considering trying another provider because of this and some other issues with the PiA app.

    Hello deserv21,

    If you are using our Android application and it is successfully connected, you should see a key icon in your status bar. This can be located at the top of the of your screen, near your clock, battery life, and connection strength.

    When not connected, the key icon will not be present in your status bar.

    Hi

    No, there's no key icon when connected, only an icon when the app is running but not connected. This icon disappears when connected.

    I'll contact the helpdesk as suggested.

    Well they've told me I can't have any support as my phone is rooted :(
