Continually Reinstall TAP Driver - Windows 10

I have had PIA working on Windows 10 for a number of months.  Sometime in May it stopped working.  I think there was a nudge to download a new version, and when I did (early May), it hasn't worked since.  I have gone thru the "complete uninstall and reinstall process" with the latest and greatest copy of PIA downloaded yesterday, with the exact same results (slightly different window screens, but same end result... no connection just "Please Reinstall TAP Driver".  Over and over.

I have put in 2 support tickets--one a couple of weeks ago, with logs attached, and another yesterday.  I don't even get an acknowledgement that my ticket is received (usually you get emailed a copy of it).  And of course have not heard back from anyone ever.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I am fairly computer savvy.  I don't use the VPN often, but there is one of my banks that refuses connections when I am in some countries, and PIA helps me get around this problem.

If a reinstall has not resolved the issue, I would suggest trying to install the TAP driver directly from the OpenVPN website to see if this resolves your issue: http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/tap-windows-9.9.2_3.exe

I am experiencing the same problems.
What helps most of the time is to disable the TAP network device for a few seconds, then re-enable, launch PIA and connect again.
What seems to help even better is this:
Go to the TAP adapter properties, open "configure", select "Advanced" tab, change the property "Media Status" to always connected.
The default (to let the application handle it) seems to not work reliable.
I have better luck setting it to always connected.

i actually just emailed them because not only am i annoyed by this, but i can no longer find a way around it. but the uninstall process stays stuck at uninstalling. i also tried dellpw's method, but a similar result in that it just freezes when i click the OK button

EDIT: Safemode did the trick. But it was not long until PIA disconnected and wanted me to reinstall my TAP driver again!

I can confirm that after following all the suggestions above I cannot get an IP address on the TAP Windows Adapter V9 (Neither IPv4 not IPV6). It assigns some 169.x.x.x address which means I have no Internet connection after VPN in.

The PIA client shows "connected" and shows me an IP address of the country I tried to connect to. Yet the TAP adapter is not aware of this IP address.

Doing a full reinstallation as suggested didn't help. This issue started out of the blue today (December 5th). It's worth mentioning that while it tries to connect, it takes longer than usual... up until yesterday the PIA client could connect in a few seconds, not it takes around 1 minute, it shows "connected" and still no Public IP assigned to the TAP adapter. I'm using the v65 version on Windows 10 Pro.

Sometimes it happens to me becuase the password is not enough somehow.But I try to reset a stronger password by password manager http://www.passwordmanagers.net/
it seems to be better..And it has to remain to be seen..

Hi  I have the same issue as SoggyGeek,  upgraded PIA & since then getting Tap Win error, followed every tip available in the internet, clean install, downloaded  Tap Driver directly from  OPen VPN no luck,  raised two tickets, no response so far, sent an email to [email protected] few days ago  still no response.  Absolutely disappointing contemplating on unsubscribing  from PIA once  my subscription finishes in October.   When PIA had the chat it was absolutely great not any longer.

Same here, i have tried 6 times to reinstall, when it is installing it says that the TAP Driver failed to install.

I have also tried this and it fails to install as well. It must be Windows 10 stopping installation of TAP Drivers.

Has anyone had any luck with this. I've just updated to v80, and nothing I've tried has worked

If you have any antivirus installed I would recommend adding the exceptions here and once you are done with that uninstall and reinstall.

If that still does not help, I would recommend manually installing the TAP adapter.

I've uninstalled my anti virus and tried manually installing using 3 different openvpn options. Keeping getting the same verification may be needed message when installing then it shows in the device manager as an unknown deice
