Immediate disconnect on VPN Selection (Ubuntu 2014.4LTS Gnome)

edited July 2016 in Linux VPN Setup
I've used VPN on both a windows 7 and ubuntu 2014.4 unity distro with no problems. However after installing it in a GNOME based UI whenever I select a VPN from the network manager, or the toolbar dropdown, the connection is immediately refused.

I haven't even been prompted for my password yet. When I look at the status of the VPN from the network manager and move the slider to on, I can see the status update to "Authentication Required" but it nearly instantaneously transfers back to "Not Connected".

Has anyone else seen/dealt with this? Thanks.

  • Yes. For me it's Linux Mint 19 - Cinnamon. It flashes by so quickly that it took me a while before I even noticed it. It doesn't give me any real errors, it just keeps tyring to connect until it finally stops trying and some notification comes up briefly that says it failed to establish a connection or somehting like that.

@shivaa95 and @Malicex, have you tried running:
    sudo apt install network-manager-openvpn-gnome
The symptoms you describe sound like you might not have the OpenVPN plugin installed.
  • @PIAColleen - I tried it and it says I already have the newest version.
