Port Forwarding and Utorrent
Hi,
I'm not very techy so please forgive my lack of knowledge.
The requirement for becoming a member of a private torrent site is that I use port forwarding to enable connection to more users.
1) I've enabled the port forwarding check box in PIA, set the IP to Sweden and made note of the port number.
2) In utorrent I've disabled randomized port, typed in the port number and enabled Upnp port mapping, NAT-PMP port mapping and added the windows firewall exception.
Despite doing all of that, when I run the Network test - sometimes I get the message that the port is open and sometimes I get the message that the port is not open.
My OS is Windows 7. Any tips?
Thanks much

Hi moomoo,
From your description of the problem it seems your using a port scanning tool, which can show misleading information when connected to the VPN Tunnel.
If you are using a web based port scanner while connecting the VPN, you would be scanning our server ports, not the ones on your PC. On a computer workstation, exposed open ports is sometimes a cause for concern; for a server, it's perfectly normal to have many ports open in order to allow the relay of internet traffic.
When trying to verify the forwarded port with a port scanner, please note this is a remote open port on our server, and will not show open on your system. Locally, as it is a listening port configured in your torrent software, it will register as "closed" on a standard port scan by default; listening ports are only open while data is actively moving through them.
