Setting up on Windows 10 without the App. Can it be done?

I have need to access my PC from outside of the network using Team Viewer.
All works great until the PC reboots then the antivirus detects the Rubyw.exe and I can't access my pc until the warning has been cleared.
Hence why I would like to be able to configure my Windows VPN service manually.
Can this be done as I have tried it and so far failed usinh my username and password.

  • Hi Midjet76,

If desired, you can also use stock OpenVPN to connect to our service on Windows. We've got a guide on our website here that goes through this setup. In addition, we've also got an L2TP setup guide here (although L2TP is not as reliably secure as OpenVPN).

If you run into any issues with these, or you'd like to talk to our helpdesk team about additional whitelisting for your specific antivirus program (which normally solves the sort of issues you describe), feel free to reach out to our support team anytime with an email to [email protected] so we can assist you further.

  • @Daniel O. The link you have given in the above reply also has the Ubuntu 12.04 OpenVPN Setup. As I now use Mint 18 Sarah (same as Ubuntu 16.04) would it be possible for someone there to update the https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/installer/install_ubuntu.sh script to enable the new security ciphers/handshake. I tried using the Linux app but it would not connect. It would be fairly simple to edit a 5.6K script and link to the new OpenVpn Strong config files. That way anyone using Ubuntu/Mint could be more secure. A 5.6K script is way better than a huge download for the Linux app that didn't work. Thanks for any help. I am sure many others would appreciate having the page updated to 2016.
  • Bump!

Any one from PIA Please see my previous post.
I want to install from the script with the new settings.

    Thanks.

    Hi MTSt,

That install_ubuntu.sh script is configured to use AES-128-CBC, but it may not work for that version of Linux. I'll make sure to take a look at it and see exactly what's going on, sorry you're running into trouble!
  • Thanks Daniel!

If someone there can re-write the script so it installs and connects at the strong settings that would be great. I did try the linux version installer and could not connect at all. Re-writing a 5.6kb script should be fairly simple and would make many linux users happy. I am due to resubscribe for another year very soon and am considering just going with another provider. I have been with PIA for years and have been happy up to now. I really hope someone can update the page to suit Ubuntu 16.04/Linux Mint 18.

    Cheers!

    Hi Daniel O.

Any word on when the install script for Ubuntu/Mint might get updated.
Still waiting to use the strong config in Mint.

    Cheers!
