Optimizing Deluge For Speed
I use Deluge for torrenting. Lately, while connected to PIA, I've noticed really slow download speeds. So I came across an article "Optimizing Deluge For Speed" (Deluge being an alternative to uTorrent). It suggested:
"The most important choice here is to avoid using a port within the 6881-6999 range. This was the range originally used by bittorrent programs and is often blocked by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). (If your port was in this range, change and re-test). The safest choice is a port in the 49160-65534 range as this will avoid ISP blocks and possible conflicts with other applications."
So I did this and it settled on 49160 and download speeds rocketed.
My simple question is: did I compromise my anonymity at all? I was connected to PIA the whole time. But in doing this port adjustment did I bypass my vpn in any way? Forgive me if that is a silly question. It's just that the difference was so dramatic.

Hi LembachIsStaying,
So long as you are connected to the VPN tunnel your data traffic is encrypted and secure!
For further security you can also use our "Killswitch" feature, which activates VPN disconnect protection. If you disconnect from the VPN, your internet access will stop working until you exit the application or disable the killswitch.
If you have any more questions or concerns, please contact us directly at [email protected] where our support team will be more than happy to assist you!
Thanks,
PIA
