vpn for fire tv running android?

hey guys, i purchased a fire tv a month ago.  i have kodi installed and have been going through a lot of tutorials.  i still don't have a firm grasp on all the features/settings but i'm getting there.

i wanted to setup a VPN but was told i needed a third party router but then i came across this site and it seems perhaps it's possible to setup a vpn without needing other hardware.

will PIA work on my fire tv device without having to get other hardware?

I was able side load the pia.apk using apps2fire and then use this app that will turn your remote into a mouse,https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fluxii.android.mousetoggleforfiretv&hl=en its $3 but well worth it.  Then you can select your server using the mouse.  I actually get better speeds using this versus when I used my router set up ddwrt.  use speedtest,net in kodi to test your speed and ip change.

I took the advice of bean80 and tried this myself, it definitely works!  You need a mouse in some form whether it's with the Mouse Toggle For Fire TV (like suggested) or you can try and plug in a USB mouse regardless.

You can use Apps2Fire or install it with ES File Explorer.  I've put up a tutorial trying to show how to install using both methods.

If you are currently operating a side-loaded APK installation of IPVanish VPN for Firestick (e.g. you beforehand practiced one of the alternative ways), you will not be able to accept app updates from the Amazon App Store.
