Updated Guide For Torrent Setup Needed

Been attempting to torrent with PIA running on OS. Almost read most current posts regarding this. It seems the best post were back in 2014. Things have changed. Its 2016.

I have tried using the proxy settings in uTorrent. No connections. Tried a lot. The speed is just horrible. I do not really care about total privacy. I just don't need my ISP stupid infringement notices that have even come up and torrents sent by my local hobby club which were made by the sender! the material that is. i know they didn't call the notice to my ISP. So who the hell is making the infringement notices to the ISP.

Will PIA running Internet connection in the background suffice for hiding your IP from your ISP?

If not, Do i enable the proxy settings in uTorrent while keeping the background PIA running or do i turn that off?

If proxy is needed - Do i use a specific port? What connection settings should i keep check or which ones do i unchecked or keep unchecked?

While keeping a good deal of speed in tact. Obviously there is give and take on this. So to reference, If your non-VPN speed on a torrent is avg. 2.5mb/s. Best settings to keep torrents over at least 1.5MB/s. Or the next best thing.

Looking for a step by step guide. Will also plan useful for others looking for one. All the ones now have just random ass questions thrown in the middle and its choppy.

  • Hello Hyper Admin,

Thanks for reaching out regarding this. If you have chosen Private Internet Access as your VPN of choice, there are some things you must firstly understand. Consider that whatever third party web address you happen to come across would not be a direct source from us, sometimes individuals can mis-construe our software and provide incorrect information. The most common I hear of customers coming across is to configure our SOCKS5 Proxy client into uTorrent while using the VPN. Many people follow this procedure and can often find that this leads to network congestion. SOCKS5 and the VPN being a ( OpenVPN ) Encryption/Tunneling Protocol are two separate entities that handle the software in a different fashion, which will result in poor re-generation of the packet production and often loses connection with the p2p client.

All that is required is the VPN application, this is a sufficient enough source to secure your internet traffic information as a whole. All information that passes through your NIC (Network Interface Card) will be protected. As your signal travels into your home and into your computer, this gives you an IP address that is supplied by your ISP (internet service provider). Instead of the signal returning for them to pry their eyes all over, the signal is then sent out from your house, and sent to one of our servers, of your choice. For a complete list of our servers, and the bandwidth available on each server, check out this link: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/network/
