V3.3.6 Qbittorrent

Hi all,

I've a couple of questions regarding v3.3.6. I've setup as follows:

-No socks 5 proxy;
-prefer encryption;
-use my TAP interface (reports IP as say 169.0.57.229);
-no Upnp with random port;
-always advertise to tracker;
-share trackers;
-enable DHT;
-enable PeX;
-enable local peer discovery;
-disable uTp protocol;

Using https://torguard.net/checkmytorrentipaddress.php it reports my IP (169.0.57.229) when connected to VPN as expected, now in this version the IP to report to trackers is a text field, so I've set it as the same value "optional ip address to bind to" - this is the IP for the TAP interface as seen in ipconfig /all (say 10.0.1.38)- and when using https://ipleak.net/ torrent check it shows the IP as I'd expect from the VPN (169.0.57.229) and also the same IP as "optional ip address to bind to" (say 10.0.1.38) - is this a security issue?

also a couple of problems:

I was expecting some speed reductions, however downloading a test torrent (an ubuntu build) I noticed without VPN speeds of ~2048 - 4000+ KiB/s where as on VPN its around 500 KiB/s any ideas on how to improve the speed?

OF more concern is the VPN keeps disconnecting whilst torrenting, as the interface is set to my TAP it's not really a security issue, the main pain being having to reset IP addresses in the settings.

thanks for your help, last time I bothered with torrenting was years ago! and I've never tried to set it up using a VPN before!

much obliged for your help and time.

cheers

  • an easier way for you - look in network connections for TAP-Windows Adapter v9 or something similar, rename it to PIA

    in qb select PIA network interface, leave ip to all addresses and leave ipv6 unticked

    try a different server in a different country see if you get a better speed, if your using a server that doesnt allow torrent traffic you might get disconnected.

    generally the more secure you configure your client you could theoretically reduce the amount of incoming connections for said torrent.

  • I've always found CA North York to be the best for torrents and try disabling PIA MACE™ and see if your vpn disconnects, i had the same issue (bittorrent+Win7) disabling MACE™ worked for me.

    In my second year with PIA now, no issue whatsoever until the realease of MACE™.
