firefox

Is Firefox with add on like no script, etc good to do? What other apps, setting in Firefox are recommended?

  • I had no script and it drove me fucking nuts.  Half the pages I go to suddenly didn't load properly.  You might have better luck...
Less add ons are probably better I think if you want privacy.  I do use ad block plus and the privacy browser icon when I need it.  I'm sure other people have their recommendations.
There's one to stop facebook tracking (which I don't use since I don't facebook) and I turned off the history for google searches too.  I should duck duck go, but I keep forgetting..lol.
  • NoScript is great, as it allows one to disable Java and Flash on webpages where you can then decide precisely when to enable it, important because it is predominantly through Java and Flash that much info can be gleamed from one's environment, which is then used to potentially "fingerprint" you online.

Initially NoScript is cumbersome to use, yes, as it will break webpages. But as you use it and "whitelist" trusted pages over time, it becomes less of an issue.

This is an art more than a science, one has to decide how important online privacy is vs. convenience..........

Here is some info around Web Browser Hardening:

And  a good article explaining fingerprinting:

  • Yeah stay with noscript, that's the best thing you can do, learn how to use it, and on what sites. I'm sure you have gone to https://ipleak.net/ to make sure you aren't leaking anything ? disable cookies unless you need them depending how paranoid you are , disable everything, especially if you use windows like me
