PIA dns servers are horrible

Testing PIA's DNS servers on 209.222.18.222 and 209.222.18.218 I have noticed a LOT of resolv issues.

For example, debian.org, cannot be resolved and a lot of other sites have problems as well.

All in all I find too many problems with PIA lately!

Which region are you connecting to? Sometimes these DNS issues are isolated to one node or one region, or it might also have been a temporary issue. Is it still happening, and if so, which gateway?

    Thanks
  • I am unable to reproduce the problem at this moment. I suspect it has just been an isolated issue with the node I was using. I'll keep monitoring and try to make a log if it happens again.
  • I am a current PIA customer in Australia.
Is it possible to use the PIA DNS servers as my default DNS server for non-vpn browsing??

  • Sure.  You can also use DNScrypt with servers such as OpenDNS or CryptoStormDNS servers for other no-log options.  There are a ton of DNS servers that can be used publicly.
  • I use PIA's dns servers on all my network connections. Perhaps with the odd gliche but they've always been quick.
  • Here is what I find. If I set the DNS Name Server to be PIA, no difference if I am logged into PIA If I logout of PIA and still use the PIA DNS, it is MUCH!!! quicker, about 5 - 10 seconds. Connected to Seattle
  • I can confirm that PIA DNS servers work much faster than any other DNS servers I tested including my providers DNS. I can also confirm temporary resolving issues. Still worth it for me.
  • When I set up the dns servers on my Sony android tv with static ip it connects to the internet, but both the pia and OpenVPN apps won’t let me connect to the vpn. Anyone know what to do? Thanks
