Where is v66 of the Private Internet Access desktop application?

Any news on when v66 will be released? The mobile applications where optimized to use OPENSSL 1.0.2j today with several other optimizations included in the update which was released on the Google Play Store. Are the desktop applications going to receive an update soon? If nothing else I would of thought the desktop applications would be updated to use the latest version of OPENSSL and I'm not the only users questioning when the next update will come.
I know that Windows users are frustrated with the latest version of the application because it is not functioning correctly. I myself have had issues with YouTube videos not functioning when PIA MACE is enabled and I would very much like to know when there will be an update released that fixes these problems. Can we please get answers?

  • We don't have a release date planned yet for v66 but it is having its final rounds of testing being done and we expect it to be out sooner than later. It's taking so much time because we kept finding more issues with DNS leak protection, and we want to make sure that it is properly fixed but most importantly that we don't downgrade back to the previous solution either, as we changed it for a reason and want to make sure that with the option enabled, there is no DNS leaks, period.

As for the MACE+YouTube issue, I can confirm it is being looked at but since it is quite intermittent it is also taking a while to test and solve properly. This one is due to the way YouTube serves its ads, which sometimes are served from a blocked domain, sometimes not. MACE also depends on the DNS leak protection working properly (as MACE operates at the DNS level), so we are focusing our efforts on getting the DNS issues solved first before we can look at the YouTube issue properly.

I hope this answers your questions!
  • Hi Max, do you know if the loss of access to the LAN network reported by many users will be fixed in v66?

    Cheers!
  • @paddy: I am not aware of any LAN issues while PIA is running, but the DNS fix will fix local DNS which allows accessing other computers by their name, which I suspect is what most people refer to. Accessing computers by their IP always worked fine provided that the computers are on the same subnet (and thus will talk to eachother directly without the router's intervention).
  • That sounds like it might be the issue, cheers mate.
  • @Max-P, Looking forward to the release of the new version. Hoping to have the issues I've mentioned fixed very soon. What other changes can we expect to come from this new update?
