El Capitan--Uninstallable, even after fixing disk permissions

Installed PIA just fine on other devices, but it won't install on El Capitan. I download and double-click the disk image, then select "Open" in the dialog box...and...nothing. No more prompts. No new icon on menu bar.

So apparently it's a permissions problem. Tried repairing disk permissions with First Aid, per PIA's suggestion. Didn't work. Tried using Terminal and sudo to repair said permissions, per this webpage: http://osxdaily.com/2015/11/04/verify-repair-permissions-mac-os-x/

Didn't work.

Finally I created a second Admin user and managed to install it with that, but I don't really want to undertake the likely vast job of migrating all my preferences to a new account.

Anyone have any ideas how to get the damn thing to install on my default admin account?
