No internet once connected

edited December 2016 in General VPN Support
All,

I am using Windows 10 and the PIA app.  It worked flawlessly for the past 2 months, but in the past few days I am no longer able to connect to the internet when the VPN is enabled.

Previously, when I would connect to the VPN it would take about 15 seconds for the connection to be established.  Now after about 45-60 seconds the PIA VPN icon will turn green and it will say "Connected".  Although it claims to be connected I am unable to connect to the internet.

This just happened overnight as I did not make any configuration changes to my PC that resulted in being unable to connect.  So far I've tried changing the connection type from tcp/udp and the port that it connects through, but that has not solved the problem.  I've also reinstalled the PIA app and TAP drivers.  Looking for advice on where to go from here.

Thanks,

  • I am having this same problem. I've been using PIA for over a year now and never had this issue. I tried connecting about an hour ago but once connected through the VPN I can't access the internet. I tried connected to different servers in the US and had the same problem with all of them. Glad to know it's not just me having this problem.

  • This happened to me yesterday - for a period of an hour it would say Connected, but nothing would work. However, after the hour, it started to work randomly. And now it seems to be okay.
  • Could be DNS issues.  Check the DNS settings of the local and TAP adapters when you are connected.  The local can be set to acquire automatically, but the TAP settings should be in the range of the VPN local IP.  So if you are on 10.4.0.5 on the TAP adapter the VPN should be set to 10.4.0.1. The software should be doing this automatically, but if it's not, you might run into errors.
  • Similar issue here
  • I'm the same, could connect fine earlier via the pia app, but now connects fine but no internet access, tried everything, even set up my router for openvpn and still the same.
  • Quick test to see if DNS is your problem:

    from the console/terminal

    ping 8.8.8.8

If that doesn't work, you have another issue (although possibly also a DNS issue).
    If it works then:

    ping www.google.com

if the 1st works and the 2nd does not, you most likely have a DNS issue
  • Fresh install at home worked for me.
