Scrape, proxy errors with Vuse - how to set up correctly

edited December 2016 in Mac OS X VPN Setup
Hello,

Here are some technical specs:  Mac OS 10.9.5 + Vuse + Apple Airport Extreme + Cable Modem/Router

I just signed up for PIA and I am trying to correctly configure Vuse to work with the proxy.  I would like to use both the VPN and the proxy that PIA provides.

The thing that I do know is, I have been able to establish that my IP address is correctly being masked and I have checked more than 10 times on how I have set up the SOCKS5 proxy info in the Proxy settings tab in Vuse so find out why I am getting errors.  Things are working but I'm getting errors.

I keep seeing an error message on some torrents that I have seeding.  It says: "Scrape Error: socks setup failed: Unknown host proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com" Also getting a similar error that says: "Scrape Error: socks setup failed: Unknown host proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com" Also have been getting: "Unknown host" error from time to time. Another error that I have seen is connection errors but they seem to come and go.

How can I make this message disappear?

I am also getting another message however it does not appear to be an error.  It says: Scrape OK.

What does all of this mean?  Have I set things up correctly and I just need to ignore this or is something not working correctly?  Do I need to set up anything else like Port Forwarding?  Do I need to do something with my network settings on my computer?  Do I need to forward any ports on my router? I want to be sure everything is correct.

Thank you all very much for your help!

  • I also have this problem with Windows Vuze. The proxy tests OK, but then will show Scrape Error socks setup failed unknown host proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com
Restarting Vuze will temporarily fix the problem. Sometimes updating tracker does too.

I also have sabnzbd downloading, I wonder if Vuze is unable to handle congestion.
