QNAP TS-431+ OpenVPN

Hi - I understand that there is another post about configuring OpenVPN on QNAP but it simply did not work on my model of NAS.

I've got a QNAP TS-431+ and can only manage to get pptp to connect rather than openvpn.  I have tried a number of the configuration files (default, IP and TCP).  The fields that need to be completed are:

Profile name:  No problem
Username:  Presumably the one that starts with p?
Password:  Self explanatory
Server address:  No problem - indicated in the .ovpn file selected.
Server Port:  UDP 1198 (automatically filled by the ovpn file selected)
Required files:  Both selected from the default openvpn configuration zip downloaded
Specify subnet mask:  255.255.255.____  where ____ allows for the choice of 0, 128, 192, 224, or 240
Use default gateway?  unchecked box
Allow other network devices in the same subnet to connect to the VPN through NAS: unchecked box
Reconnect when the VPN connection is lost: unchecked box

Here is a graphic of what I need to fill in (added the above in case the .png doesn't appear).

I have tried various combinations of the gateway setting checked, unchecked, different subnet masks, etc... but every time I go to save the Create VPN connection dialogue, I get the Failed message.  I would really appreciate assistance in configuring this!  Thanks!

  • Just adding that I am in the same boat on a TS-231+ running Firmware 4.3.2
  • Have you created a port fowarding rule on your router to allow PORT 1198 UDP from your Qnap IP Address?

    Yes

It was solved by rebooting the router and then creating a new connection.  The problem I am facing now is the frequent disconnects of the open vpn connection that require reboots of the router.
