Question about port forwarding

So I'm not exactly sure if port forwarding is working correctly. On PIA I have a port set and have "request port forwarding enabled". In my bittorrent client I have this port set to "port used for incoming connections". I am connected to Toronto as it is one of the port forwarding compatible servers. The thing is, I have no way to test if this is working properly or not. If I go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and enter in the port, it says it can NOT see it open. I'm not sure if this is intended to not be able to see the port as open, as I am on VPN. The port is not open on my router, as someone told me that was unnecessary when going through PIA. Is there any way to test for sure if port forwarding is working? Bonus question: Is there any potential for my IP to be leaked by using port forwarding while torrenting?

When connected to the VPN Tunnel, using port scanning can show misleading information.

Port scanning tools are typically designed to test open ports on a user's computer. If you are using a web based port scanner while connecting the VPN, you would be scanning our server ports, not the ones on your PC. On a computer workstation, exposed open ports is sometimes a cause for concern; for a server, it's perfectly normal to have many ports open, in order to allow the relay of internet traffic.

Please note that none of the open ports on our servers pose a security threat. Additionally, our datacenters are protected against attacks with powerful adaptive firewalls.

If you are using port forwarding, and trying to verify the forwarded port, please note this is a remote open port on our server, and will not show open on your system. Locally, as it is a listening port configured in your torrent software, it will register as "closed" on a standard port scan by default; listening ports are only open while data is actively moving through them.

The best way to see if port forwarding is working, is to attempt a download.
