Resume from Sleep

Hi,

I have a little bit of annoyance with the client and wondered if there is any way to stop this from happening. Basically, when I shut the lid of my laptop it is set to go to sleep, which is the behaviour I want. However, whenever this happens then next time I open the lid and try to use the internet it doesn't work. I have to go to the PIA app, disconnect and then reconnect again. I am guessing the app doesn't deal with resuming from sleep? Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks

  • I had this issue as well months ago, so I got rid of PIA app and ran OpenVPN app instead and had no issues since.
  • Turn off killswitch.
  • @findjinn I tried turning off Killswitch and VPN still does not reconnect on resume from sleep.
  • Hello MattH73

I am sorry for the inconvenience of the issue. What you can experience when your computer goes into sleep mode is the tempory disruption of your internet connection and other processes, which can result in the VPN disconnecting and not allowing your internet to return.

If you are using the killswitch, your computers sleep mode can trigger the killswitch function in the PIA client. Unchecking the killswitch checkbox should reinstate your internet connection; you would simply re-engage it to use it again on your next VPN session.

If you are not using the killswitch, sleep mode can still cause the VPN to disconnect improperly, preventing the ability of the VPN software to reconnect, and can also prevent your regular internet connection from working. When this happens, you may need to reboot the computer to get your system running normally. - PIA CS TEAM
