Individual apps to use VPN

Hi all, is it possible to just set individual web browsers on OSX to use the proxy? I'd like chrome/firefox to use the proxy connection and then for safari to ignore it but I can only find the option of all or nothing. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how it works.

  • You can use the proxy settings in Firefox with Proxifier, but it won't be encrypted.

What you are asking for is application-level routing from VPN, which PIA doesn't support. Possibly the easiest way to do this is to run the app you want only to use VPN inside a virtual machine, bridged to the main network adapter.

  • I run a Linux VM (console based installation) on my NAS.

It has the OpenVPN client and Privoxy (a non-caching proxy server for HTTP/HTTPS).

Then I can set FireFox to use <ip-of-virtual-machine>:8118 as the HTTP and HTTPS proxy.
  • I do exactly this right now by using the Private Internet Access chrome ext.

OC, is there a simple guide for how to do this anywhere?
