Dust seems to be settling

Been about 20+ days now that issues of IP assignment and blockages of sites stated. Because of that I elected to keep PIA but use the OpenVPN application which allows me to create a static IP request. The IP I selected was one that had the minimal blockage.

Today I reinstalled V.70 PIA Manager and was presently surprised that I did not see any blockages. I cycled through several IP address and continue to be blockage free. So now I think I will continue with the PIA Manager, however, OpenVPN is still residing on my Laptop ready to go back to static IP request.

I know there are still issues with many users here. I hope that eventually PIA will resolve these issues and get their reputation back. One issue I care nothing about is the matching IP address on the PC and on sites like IPLEAK. I don't care what IP address is assigned as long as the IP assigned by my ISP does not show anywhere.

Hopefully PIA we resolve the issue of the servers outside the US. It seems that a lot of users are really looking to access media in a specific country that is not available in their location.

  • I hope so.  I saw my first glimmer of hope today.  In addition to the geolocation issues, I've been completely shut out of PPTP connections to any server.  At the suggestion of a PIA support person, I tried L2TP ... and I could connect.  Not only that, but my apps which rely on geolocation worked.  So maybe there is hope.  Without exaggeration, my to-do list for today had "check out alternate VPN services", which I would prefer not to do, because I've been very happy with PIA to date.

So I'll see how things develop.  I think that the geolocation issue is a bit out of PIA's hands, as I understand it.  I think it depends on which geolocation dB sites are buying and when they are updating them, etc.

By the way, I've seen all the posts about people not getting replies from PIA support, and I just have to say that they've been pretty good by me.  It might take a day or two, but I've always gotten replies back from them with suggestions.  Haven't always worked, but they are trying.

Anyway, can't say that I'm back to normal, but I saw a bit of progress.
  • But to be clear, the primary reason I have this service is for an IP in a certain country, and I still don't have one for desktop computers (win, mac and linux/mint) for the sites that count, so while I'm not shopping for alternate services today, I'm still in limbo.
  • If I may ask, which country?
  • France.  If I do an IP address lookup on several of those sites, some of them will show me in France, and others in New Jersey in the US or elsewhere in the US. The IP starts with 196.  I used to have 108 ones, which showed me in France.  One of the support suggestions was to try logging into one of those 108 ones (like you also suggested, but they were more precise), but I somehow got directed back to the 196 one. Anyway, the sites that I'm trying to use are probably subscribing to the service that puts me in New Jersey or wherever.
