PIA on Amazon Fire Stick

I have PIA set up on my two Fire Sticks.  However, on one (smaller TV) I can't see what it shows for "current IP" under "original IP."  On my other (larger) TV, I can see it all and what I'm seeing is this the attached image.  The original and current IP addresses are the same (first two numbers redacted :) ), which is telling me that it isn't working.  Or is it?  Anything I should be doing differently?

Thanks!

Change locations and see if the IP changes. If it does, then you are probably OK. But not knowing your ISP and their IP range it is hard to tell. If you want to redact, do so with the last two octets or last three octets. Also, check with one of the leak sites with and without the VPN running to compare IP addresses.
  • Sorry, what do you mean by change locations?  Take the Fire stick to somebody else's house?  Sorry, I hate to sound stupid here... :)  Suffice to say the beginning of my real IP address is either 24, 68, 70 or 72; it's a major ISP. :)  Right now I have my desktop PC behind a California proxy, and have an address of 198.8.80.18.
  • No, I should have been more specific. My apologies. By changing locations I mean instead of US-California, try US-West, or US-Seattle. Even try an overseas location. Your IP will change based on which location you select. Each time you select a location and get logged in, check the leak sites to see if your IP changed and if your DNS matches your IP.
  • I have the exact same issue.  I installed the mouse pointer app so that I could change regions, but no matter where I select (and disconnect and reconnect the VPN), I always show the original IP = current IP.

Let me know if you find something out.  I submitted a support request earlier today, waiting to hear back.
  • I think I need the mouse pointer app, too.  I'll do that, try some different locations and see what happens.  Thanks!

I bought the mouse pointer app, but can't get it or the original remote to select anything on the PIA screen.  All I can do is move the slider back and forth to connect or disconnect with the VPN; I can't find any way to move down to choose the region.

While the Fire Stick on my larger TV is still having the same problem (IP address isn't changing), I noticed something on my smaller TV: The bottom of the app screen cuts off, so that I can't see the current IP address.  However, I can see the pixels on the very top, and it looks like it might be working (see screenshot).

Honestly, I'm fairly disappointed in this version of PIA.  I'd pay a little extra for access to it, if something better could be developed.

Try changing the aspect ratio on the TV to accommodate for the image size. Probably under Menu|Display|Aspect Radio or maybe Screen Size. You will note that the TV is Landscape and the app is Portrait.

So you are clicking on the down arrow to the right of the Automatic US California? And when you do nothing happens?

I wonder if there is a misalignment of the location of the down arrow and the location of the "click zone". (Sorry, not a programmer so I don't know the correct terms) Try clicking around the general area of the down arrow. Like above it and below it. You should see the various locations regardless of connections status (at least on my Android phone it works that way).
  • I fixed the picture on my smaller TV, and PIA appears to be working fine; I'm getting a different IP address with a three digit first number.  But, even with the mouse pointer app I can't get a pointer or select more than one or two things on the screen; certainly not the location.  So, I'm still dead in the water with the Fire stick connected to my larger TV.  The smaller one is the one I use more often anyway, but I'd like to be able to entertain company in the living room with movies still in theaters, without the threat of a DMCA letter hanging over me. :)
