PIA and Debian 9

I was never able to use the PIA software on Debian 9, so I opened a ticket. Here is what I was told.

"Thank you for using our VPN for your private internet access, I sincerely apologize for the long response time. Our Customer Support structure recently underwent major changes and is now experiencing a heavy volume of tickets. Thank you so much for your patience.

Unfortunately at this time our systems does not support your operating system, what I would suggest is that you install Openvpn. Here is a article from our support center."

I did get it working using openvpen on a virtual machine I used to test with.

Thought you all should know before trying to make the software work on Debian 9 (Stretch).

.. and yet, in another forum thread, someone reports "Successful install on two machines with Debian 9 GNOME"

also, at https://www.ubuntu.com/about/about-ubuntu/ubuntu-and-debian it says "Debian can be considered the rock upon which Ubuntu is built."

  • PIA sucks...
  • thank you for your sophisticated and informed opinion.
  • Several days after opening a ticked I received this URL with information for installing PIA in another way (it is the same that was posted above by another user):

    https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/ubuntu-openvpn

Following the instructions I could install PIA successfully in Debian 9 XFCE.

Nevertheless this has two disadvantages over a "normal" PIA installation:

    1. You have no Kill Switch (at least I could not see how to setup it).
    2. I had to enter my password for each new different connection.

Sorry, but p9732492 is right. You have not working solution for Linux systems, but you said so and take our money.
  • i counterclaim it is working perfectly until you provide evidence otherwise

We already brought in a lot of Linux fixes with v76/v77. That majority of the changes in that release are Linux fixes and changes.

What's not working for you, what distro and what DE are you using?

Running 77 in Debian-Mate Sid. No issue whatsoever. No issues with Pia support either. I sense trolling/incompetence
