Client: RECONNECTING tls-error

I am trying to install PIA on my Netgear R7000, running dd-wrt v24-sp2. I followed the directions based on this page: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/#ddwrt_openvpn on two different computers (a ethernet connected laptop and wifi connected desktop, both running Ubuntu 17.04). When I go to the status tan and check under OpenVPN tab, I get the error message in the subject line. I rebooted the router and am still getting the same error. Searching various forums has not yielded any answers I can understand!
