Ruby & nwjs Connections - Lots of Connections.....

edited August 2 in Mac OS X VPN Setup Posts: 1
I've just upgraded to the latest version on Mac OS X and now see lots of requests coming from Ruby hitting my firewall heading off to many different IPs. I've Googled and see some explanation for this, however am concerned to open any connection for Ruby on the firewall as this is a clear security risk.

Why has this just started, the previous version did not do this??

I'm also seeing nwjs also trying to get to multiple IPs again, are we supposed to open this up to any connection?

What's going on and why has this started to happen?

Here's just a short list of some of the connections trying to be made in just a few minutes.....

  • ruby : 177.154.139.194 port 8888
  • ruby : 104.200.151.85 port 8888
  • nwjs : 209.222.18.222 port 53
  • ruby : 209.222.18.222 port 1111
  • ruby : 104.156.228.95 port 8888
  • nwjs : 209.222.18.218 port 53
  • ruby : 108.61.228.96 port 8888
  • ruby : 64.237.37.123 port 8888
  • ruby : 192.8.80.72 : 8888
  • ruby : 138.128.180.138 : 8888
  • ruby : 104.200.154.50 : 8888
  • ruby : 104.200.153.74 : 8888
  • ruby : 104.156.228.95 : 8888
  • ruby : 108.61.226.48 : 8888

Anyone else seeing this?

I really don't want to open my firewall for Ruby to connect to anything it wants....

    Hi there @J4j3t7cGnbFmRUmvt696,

What you're seeing here is the application's ping scanner testing all servers to ensure that you get the lowest latencies possible. The :53 requests are to PIA's DNS servers, which you can verify here. This behavior from the application is normal and nothing to be concerned about.
