Not in toolbar

Since upgrading to High Sierra, PIA does not display in the Apple toolbar, yet it is running. Privateinternetaccess.com verifies this, and reports that I am "protected by PIA". I have tried installing and reinstalling, which fixes the problem temporarily, but upon restarting the problem comes back. Help.

  • Hey @privatelandsape

I am sorry to hear that!

Do you have any security software installed?
  • I'm having the same problem.  I've tried reinstalling  several times, but the installer won't  start once I click on it.

Could we please get a substantive  response?
  • I'm having the same problem. Have to reinstall each time I sign out of Osx H Sierra . Sometimes not able to reinstall because it says it's running in the background, but no where to be found, not actually working. Getting frustrating, will start to look at other services.
  • I just discovered that PIA is offered as an extension to the Chrome browser. I downloaded it and it's working!
    Never mind the desktop software!

I just updated to high sierra and lost my menu bar icon for PIA ... came here and was bemused to see that someone posted this problem last october and there doesn't seem to be any useful suggestions yet. The 'get info' pane confirms that double-clicking on the app launches it, but ...

so, anybody figure this out yet? are there extensions for firefox, tor browser, mail, and other online tools?

Typically, simply reinstalling the app after the High Sierra update fixes it all. Have you tried that yet?
  • Absurd I had to make a forum account for this. How is it possible there is no response from the developers with this many people having the issue? I shouldn't have to restart my computer twice a week just so I can reinstall a faulty program.

Same issue. Randomly disappears from toolbar. Go to launch -- no response. Clean delete the app and attempt to reinstall. Can't reinstall because system says it is running. Cannot find the process in activity monitor. What more are we, the consumer, supposed to be doing?

Yeah, I've been dealing with tech support on this also, just signed up for this forum and found this thread. Anyway, me too.
  • Have been experiencing the same problem since v72. When wakening the computer from sleep, on occasion, the icon isn't displayed in the menu bar at the top the screen, even though the program is still running and VPN is active.
To restore the icon, I have to force quit ruby using the activity manager, log out and log in again and open PIA.
This problem has persisted for a long time. Please can someone fix it in the next version.
