I got this set up and it works fine with chrome and firefox via proxifier; however, I'm trying to proxy the launcher (just the launcher, not the main game executable), and it gives me a message saying "Could not connect through proxy proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com:1080 - Proxy server cannot establish a connection with the target - connection not allowed by ruleset".
The launcher normally can successfully use whatever proxy settings is set by the system, but since I only want to proxy this and not the rest of the system, it seems a bit troublesome. Does anyone have any idea of what I should be looking at?

Obtain new username/ password from client support page. Log into client support page and generate a new id/ pass.
Is there some nuance to that that I'm not aware of? I generated a id/pass combo from the client support page to get chrome/firefox to work; if I add a rule to tunnel the game launcher only the launcher fails with that error.
The proxy might indeed be blocking something that the launcher tries to do. If you don't know what, you could ask developer support or try to analyze the proxy requests yourself with something like wireshark.
are you guys using your default logins? i am reading on some of the threads that you now have to use the specific PIA Proxy generated username and password (not your general username/passwpord that you use with the client).
i am still trying to figure out where to get this "generated" username and password.

I would very much like the option of using SSH to access the proxy. Allowing passwords and other sensitive information to be sent in the clear is not something I am willing to do.
There are many free programs available to make the connection relatively easy. Putty and Bitvise Tunnelier are two free programs. ProxyCap is inexpensive and works very well also. I have used SSH tunneling to a proxy with services such as SecureTunnel and find that being able to force a specific application to use the proxy while keeping the default Internet connection going through my ISP (or another VPN) is the best of both worlds.
Please implement this along with a US proxy server and you will have an unbeatable combination.
Thanks,
John
Have you been able to setup Bitvise Tunnelier ? If so, could you post your settings ?
Because I always have "Server disconnected without sending a disconnect message".
Does the login/password for the proxy have an expiration date? I can generate a new login/password combination and configure it into the browser, but after a week (more or less) the browser asks me again to authenticate on the proxy.
The old login/password do not work anymore and I have to generate a new one, after which the browser loads pages successfully.
I'm ok if the login/password for the proxy need to be renewed often, but I would like to know if others have the same issue or if it's just me.
This is not working for me. When I enable the proxy I get no connection at all in uTorrent. If I disable the proxy and enable the VPN then I can connect fine.
@quicksilver03: You're the first person on this forum to mention expiration of the credentials. Please open a support ticket to get an official response.
Please don't message me directly unless I ask you to. That said, you can send messages from your own message inbox, which should be a button in the upper right corner on these pages, or can be reached via this link: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/index.php?p=/messages/all
As far as I know all registered users should be able to start a new discussion.
Yes, the credentials for PPtP, L2TP and the proxy are identical and must be generate from the user account pages. The username always starts with an "x".
Through that big data skandal I started thinking about my earlier Internet habits, when I used to watch stuff that is only for adults (porn ) . Now I am not ashamed or something but since I am a little paranoid I started to think. One thought of mine was that if someday a person becomes a political figure, the Nsa or any other group might want to find out something about that person. Taaadaaa today I came across that case about the NSA spying on sexual-online activities of "potencial" terrorists with the intend to be able to discredit them with that kind of data. Soooo my question is Can a normal persons Internet history (including Google search entryies, facebook, skype, email logins etc, website visits...) be searched through, months and years afterwards and for that.
can you please confirm that the proxy is still working? I can't connect either. I am using proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com, port 1080 and my generated username/password. It works fine with other proxies, but not this one.
I can't seem to get the Socks5 proxy to work with my torrent client.
I have entered the correct username and password. The correct address and port number. What am I doing wrong, I'm connected to the internet but the torrent never connects to any peers or seeders.

I've install and test successfully. IP is now coming from nltelcom.com

Does XBMC show an error message?

Testing SOCKS connection to proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com port:1080.
Connect failed, Unknown host proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com port
I'm using the correct username and password.
Why isn't this working?
