What is a reasonable maximum speed I should achieve on the proxy? I have a 175 Mbps connection, but I don't expect to get that full pipe into the proxy. That being said, the max I have seen is about 16-18 Mbps (bits not Bytes). Everything works well otherwise. I am based in Canada. Thanks!
Private Internet Access currently offers over 1,400+ servers in 10 countries but this is expected to grow. When it comes to speed, most servers clock at least 30,000 mbps when Private Internet Access is engaged. The top performing servers are those out of the United States and the Netherlands. It can run on almost 40 operating systems including PC/Windows, Apple, Linux, iOS and Android. No doubt! With, Private VPN's high level of anonymity with a hands-off approach, it helps users feel like they are truly secure. For other Proxy VPN Server info, you can read other blogs and stuffs on the internet.
Can anyone help me with setting up utorrent with the proxy , I tried chatting in with support however was discouraged to use the proxy . Was told nah, you'd want to use the VP
I've previously posted on this topic, and after contacting PIA live chat i was told specifically to use IP address 109.201.135.183 :1080 which seems to have sorted my intermittent connectivity issues with the proxy. Hope that helps.
hello, i am so glad that pia has socks5 at this proxy-nl location
i wish there was a us proxy (and a uk one too!)
everyone needs to understand that socks do not support encryption and configuring your bittorrent clients with socks is not enough to protect you if you choose to download copyrighted material. (sure your ip will be hidden from those copyright trolls) but your isp (and any middlemen) can still see the traffic.
enough of that though, it is good to have this type of legacy support because in some situations you need to use socks.
if pia loved us as much as they say they do, they would allow everyone to have ssh access to the servers. (ssh has socks built in!) that way when you ssh into the server you can create a tunnel and configure any applications on your machine to forward all requests to the tunnel. thus having encrypted socks!
we don't need root access, just give us privileges needed to log in with ssh (i would prefer to use a key pair for authentication rather than a username and password
I am sorry for the issue that you have spotted. I would like to assure you that we do care about all of our clients and although not one person is perfect, this mistake should have been spotted and corrected and there is no excuse for it. On behalf of our entire organization, please accept my sincerest apology.
iOS PPTP/L2TP native support connection issues, then PIA support giving bad code for OpenVPN here.
The last line reads client
ca ca.crtsetenv CLIENT_CERT 0
it should be reflecting ca.crt, so: ca ca.crt setenv CLIENT_CERT 0
No excuse. None! It's THEIR blog quoting this.

I am a user, so do not bash PIA for this comment, but why are you in the proxy thread derailing to whine? You have a fix, but that is not good enough? Or does your solution not work and you think the best way to get help is to bring it to a totally separate thread and toss it in with loads of complaints?
Did someone make a mistake? I have no idea. But I rather doubt PIA is conspiring to keep you from using the very service they use to make their livelihood with.
I am totally in the dark with regards to iOS. I have never even seen an iOS device, and honestly I doubt I would know one if it fell from the sky and smacked me in the head. But I do read all the threads here, and would have tried to help you in the correct thread.
So please, tell me in simple terms, do you have a working fix for this problem? Or shall we go over to the correct thread and see if we can figure out what is amiss?

That's a fair enough question.
I'm upset mainly because after 18 months of using PIA I have realised that 1) encryption if on iOS is a lie, 2) OpenVPN wasn't working due to PIA's own blog post. Try travelling/staying long term in China (like me) and relying on VPN services which you find out aren't encrypted. Do you know what trouble you can be in for using TOR to see the web? Can you imagine Chinese prison? I could vividly when I wrote the above.
Thankfully none of that happened but with my job it's always a possibility.

I appreciate that.
I will discuss the above issue via email with support out of courtesy.

I am glad to hear you are reasonable. Thank you for the courtesy. But to be honest, I would never expect to get away with anything in China on the Internet regardless of whatever precautions I take. Please do be careful.
ADDITIONALLY, and I can't stress this enough, your username and password get transmitted in plaintext when connecting to the proxy and can be sniffed (especially on unsecured wireless networks).
Has anyone gotten the SOCKS proxy to work with Mac OS X? I generated a SOCKS user/pass combo in the client area and have tried it on both OS X 8 and 5. As soon as I activate the proxy in the Network Preferences all browser attempts fail with NSUrlErrorDomain: -1.
Is there a reason this won't work with Proxy Helper for Google Chrome? It allows me to fill out all the information but as soon as I try to access a website it gives this error.
Error code: ERR_SOCKS_CONNECTION_FAILED
Will this proxy not work for browsing? It works great in my bittorrent application but it won't work on my browser.
I'm having the trouble that when I run a torrent client through the proxy, it appears to change ip/port numbers very frequently. The tracker I'm connecting to limits the number of torrents I can participate in, and this hopping means it thinks I have 4+ locations attached to each torrent. Is this a miss-configuration on my end (I am using an older utorrent client), or something on PIA's end?
3. Previously when I used BitTorrent I could able to see my VPN IP in it's downloading peer list
4. In qBittorrent's peer list I don't see neither my VPN IP or my original one - is this supposed to be happen in qBittorrent? Is this behavior is okay?
5. Is there a way to see what IP of mine qBittorrent is using?
So Comcast/Xfinity has been blocking port 1080 for quite awhile now, rendering this proxy useless for anyone using this isp...can we get another port PIA?
Comments
Ive got questions:
does proxy have ipfilter?
is here any reason to use proxy and VPN simultaneusly?
thx
