New to VPN

Hi, I'm new to the VPN scene. I basically just want it for torrenting. I use qBittorrent.

My question is, I purchased the VPN, turned it on (connect auto)

Is my torrent usage now protected or is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks!

You need to check for IP leaks. This is what will get you in trouble with your ISP. To check for leaks once you activate the VPN, go to https://ipleak.net/. It will return your IP address and your DNS address. If your DNS matches your IP address and you are using the VPN then you should be safe. However, if they are different then you have a DNS leak and need to fix that pronto. Do not torrent if you have a DNS leak.

So go ahead and access the VPN then go to https://ipleak.net/. If you are not sure, you can post your results here and someone will help you.

  • Yes and you will also want to enable DNS Leak Protection along side Internet Kill Switch when using torrent applications to protect against IP leaks if the VPN connection drops at any point.

So, I checked out ipleak and at first they did not match so I went into the VPN settings and enabled the dns leak option and the kill switch. Now the ip address all match including the torrent address location one. Only thing I find strange is it shows my location as my actual state. I thought it would show a different state. Is "auto" the best setting or should I be picking another country?

Thanks for the replies, Much appreciated.

Staying in your state is not a big deal. The important thing is that your Public IP address and DNS address match. Also when you torrent check the tracker to see that the public IP shows and not your ISP or DNS IP address.
