The VPN don't hide my location?!

All right guys, I've discover something really wrong, when I'm browsing under the VPN and I do a check of my IP like on whatismyip.com everything is fine, it show the VPN's IP, but when I do a check on Google Maps or Apple Maps (I'm on Mac) or even Bing Maps basically all services who uses the location mode are showing me my real location while the VPN is enable wtf?! Am I the only who got this? (I already opened a ticket)

  • I get this too. I take it you are checking on a laptop, or other. As far as I know these devices don't use the IP to determine the location. They use the location that is detected by the local device.

For example, on a mobile, if you use the VPN and then check your site on a website like that, it should request to access your location. This will be the GPS location as recorded by your device.

Don't worry, because you can disable this in most browsers by default, so that websites will need to request your location. Any sites that just use your IP to track location (the majority of sites) should be fine.
  • Clear your browser cookies and logout of any of the service you use, such as Google Plus, Google Earth, or any mapping program. The key is to make sure your cookies are clear and if possible, prevent cookies from being stored.

Hey, same problem here. Opened a ticket and no response.  I have a really old laptop with no built-in GPS, not even bluetooth.  When I reply 'yes' to the location prompt by chrome while here https://ctrlq.org/maps/where/ , it instantly finds me within a few feet of error.

    Anybody found the leak yet?
  • .... They can use nearby WiFi networks aswell, they don't have to use GPS...

Why are allowing the browser to get locate you in the first place.

The google maps cars log WIFI Location.
Google knows where your WIFI is. It knows your neighbours router.
It knows what you do in private...
