edited December 2017 in Windows VPN Setup
I have problems in windows 10 64 bit with the pia manager systray. After a couple of hours the systray turns red,but is still connected! I cannot disconnect somehow without killing the pia manager app!I,ve tried several versions of the pia manager but without result! Is there a workaround for this somehow?

  • Are you using Bitdefender Antivirus ?
  • Hi there sorry to jump in but I am having the same issue and yes my antivirus is Bitdefender. Any help would be appreciated
  • Hi Everyone, I've been having the exact same problem with PIA and Bitdefender however I believe I have solved the issue.

Disconnect PIA and go into the settings menu by right clicking on the red PIA icon in the task bar.

Click the advanced settings slider to reveal the advanced settings menu.

    Turn on DNS leak protection.

    Save and reconnect.

I've had no issues at all since doing this, no drop outs at all.

Hope it works for you too.

Unfortunately, nope. The issue is intermittent and caused by the Firewall and Advanced Threat Protection modules of BitDefender, or more specifically how they hook into processes to monitor and scan them. It causes the app to leak memory until it either corrupts its memory space or flat our run out of memory and crash. This is why it appears to work at first glance but if you leave it running for a couple hours you will see multiple PIA icons in the tray, or none.
