PIA status bar icon constantly flashing (android 8.1)

Hello all, 

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed that the PIA app status bar icon constantly flashes (presumably it's when it updates the speed/data status) when the VPN is up?

running android 8.1, phone is a pixel 2 XL, running the latest version of the PIA app from the app store.

It would be nice to see the flashing issue fixed (it causes all the icons next to the PIA icon to flash/re-draw, too) and/or an option to just hide the PIA status bar icon, or turn off the speed test/data counter.

I figure that I can't be the only user with this issue.   i suppose a work around would be to use PIA via the openvpn app.

Hi Ryan,

Unfortunately, this is indeed a bug with the app on 8.1. The devs are aware of it and they're working on a fix, but at the moment, your best option is to use OpenVPN.

Thanks for the quick response!  at the risk of sounding lazy (for not looking it up myself), is there a quick link/guide i can follow for setting up PIA on the openvpn mobile app?

Just a note (Nexus 6p) to say that the most annoying part about the flashing is that it affects reading notifications in the pull-down shade. It moves the whole notification series up and down and I've stopped reading there.

This is perfect! I just got a Pixel 2 and I'm glad there's a workaround for the blinking icon. Hopefully a fix will be available soon.
