PVN does not work on my Toshiba chromebook
It says "connected" but when I go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/, it shows my real IP address. Please help. Thanks in advance.
I did the following:
I did the following:
- Create a username/password for the L2TP connection via this link: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/generate-password
- On your ChromeOS device, right-click on the time-bar on your desktop.
- Click the 'settings' gear icon in the lower-left.
- Click "Add Connection".
- Select "OpenVPN / L2TP".
- In the Server Hostname field, enter the gateway you want to use, such as "us-east.privateinternetaccess.com" (without the quotes). Our full gateway list can be found here: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/network/
- In the Service Name field, enter "Private Internet Access.
- In the Provider Type drop-down, choose "L2TP/IPsec + Pre-shared key".
- In the Pre-shared key field, enter the following: mysafety
- In the Username field, enter the "x" username you created in step 1 above.
- In the Password field, enter the password you generated for the "x" username in step 1 above.
- Depending on your version of Chrome OS, you may have the option to "Save identity and password". If this is checked, it means that your VPN username and password will be saved.
- Click Connect.

@OpenVPN A customer pointed out to me through support that ChromeOS now apparently has some OpenVPN support, and without developer mode at that! But it's still kinda experimental, and they were obviously having issues with it since they opened a ticket, but it's getting there! https://chromium.googlesource.com/experimental/cros-pia/
It does use the old Blowfish servers and certificates however, so it's still not quite as good but once it's ready I'll see if I can make a zip file of VPN profiles for ChromeOS.
We've actually replied to your ticket in 16 hours (or at least the ticket from the same email as the one on the forum). We did however still had some delay issues due to a backlog back in November when that was submitted. We've finally cleared the queue although there are still some delays with the holiday vacations, but in 2018 our support should be back to full spin!
We do not officially support Chromebooks with a VPN connection however, so this is probably why our staff had a bit of a harder time helping you as they can only really help with situations they have been trained for and have experience with. We're still working on improving this now that we are not so overloaded anymore. I'm part of the support team too, so technically you've been helped by PIA's support
