Frequent Disconnects

I recently signed up and installed PIA windows client on my Windows 7 machine and was able to quickly connect and verify it was working via ipleak. However, I am having an issue where it very frequently will loose connection, notably when having a 'burst' of data usage. For example, I can reliably get it to disconnect when initiating a speed test on a site such as speedtest.net or fast.com. Another example would be loading ~5 websites at once in tabs. When the disconnect occurs the icon will stay green and it will automatically start working again ~minute later. I can also manually disconnect and reconnect to get it to work again. 

I attempted to run through all of the port combinations outlined in support article https://helpdesk.privateinternetaccess.com/hc/en-us/articles/226851548-I-have-trouble-connecting-or-the-connection-drops-frequently-changing-ports but that did not resolve the issue. Any support would be appreciated.

  • Disconnects on burst of data usage typically indicates an MTU issue/packets being dropped. I would recommend first trying to enable the "Use small packets" option in the PIA client settings and see if it helps.

    If it still disconnects, could you please send us a debug log so we can investigate more deeply?
  • I enabled "Use small packets" and reran a speed test and ran into the same disconnect issuee. Sent you guys a debug log file ID 21592.
